John G Bennett

J. G. Bennett was a British scientist, mathematician, and philosopher who was introduced to G. I. Gurdjieff and P. D. Ouspensky, J.G,Bennett is the author of many books on Gurdjieff and his teachings; he founded the Bradford Gurdjieff Society in Yorkshire in 1949. Of his many works Gurdjieff: Making a new World is a comprehensive biography of Gurdjieff.

Thomas de Hartmann

 Thomas de Hartmann was already an acclaimed composer in Russia when he first met Gurdjieff. He spent the years 1917 to 1929 as a pupil and confidant of Gurdjieff. While at the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man ,he collaborated with Gurdjieff to compose hundreds of musical works that today form the basis of the Movements that are taught in many Gurdjieff groups. His book Our Life with Mr. Gurdjieff paints a clear picture of his times with Gurdjieff.

Rina Hands

 That the Work in Yorkshire today is still firmly established is owed to Rina Hands. Moving from J.G. Bennett’s England school Rina spent a year with Gurdjieff in Paris. Returning to England she worked with J.G. Bennett to establish the Yorkshire Gurdjieff group based in Bradford. Her mantle of leadership and commitment to the Work continued until her death in 1994. Rina Hands was the author of Diary of Madame Egout Pour Sweet. A good part of Rina Hands' book describes the readings and the meals and gives some insights into the science of the Idiots. It gives a first hand view of the way Gurdjieff taught in his last year.

 C. S. Nott

 C. S. Nott first met Gurdjieff in New York. He was also a close associate of A.R. Orage, Thomas de Hartmann and P.D. Ouspensky. His key work Teachings of Gurdjieff - A Pupil's Journey remains an important source book to this day.

A.R. Orage.

 A. R. Orage was a leading literary figure from Yorkshire England who became a key pupil of Gurdjieff. Having studied with Gurdjieff at the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man, Orage became a leading figure in the founding of the work in America. Orage was instrumental in assisting the translation of All and Everything into English and his work Orage's Commentaries on GI Gurdjieff's "All and Everything" gives powerful insights into the meanings contained in this work.

 P.D. Ouspensky.

P. D. Ouspensky studied intensively with Gurdjieff between 1915 and 1918 and throughout the rest of his life continued to embrace the Work. Probably the best known of the pupil’s of Gurdjieff, Ouspensky’s key work on the teachings of Gurdjieff was In Search of the Miraculous: Fragments of an Unknown Teaching. This book is an honest and clear introduction to the ideas of Mr. Gurdjieff.
